Colonel Soobramoney Govender was born on 04 June 1935 in the South Coast of Kwa-Zulu Natal. He served in the SA Police from 03 March 1958 until his exit on early retirement on 30 September 1989, at SAPS Phoenix, Kwa Zulu Natal.
After attestation in 1958, he was posted to SA Police, Umkomaas.
He underwent his basic police training at the South African Police and was thereafter transferred to SA Police, Mayville and then in 1962 to SA Police, Malvern, and in September 1965 to SA Police, Chatsworth.
In 1975 he was transferred to SA Police, Isipingo and in 1977 he was transferred to S A Police, Wentworth. In 1981, he was transferred as Station Commander to SA Police, Sydenham and then as the first Station Commander in 1987 to SA Police, Phoenix.
