Net so omvattend dus as die Nongqai as sulks.

THE LADIES EDITION: WHO we are and WHAT we WISH TO BE
Nongqai Ladies is a magazine for the women of the South African Forces. With the 50th anniversary of women as full-fledged police officers in 2022, Sarie van Niekerk, a retired journalist who was herself at the time (in March 1972) part of the very first intake of women constables, started writing a regular women’s column for Nongqai. Also, she and our editor-in-chief, Brig Hennie Heymans, collaborated on a commemorative book about the first 50 years (see below). All too soon, these columns grew into a series of Special Issues of Nongqai focused on women in the Forces, which shortly thereafter came to fruition as the full-fledged women’s issue, published in its own right.

Although the Ladies Edition was born from within the police experience, it is aimed broadly – at the history (also contemporary) of women in ALL branches of the Forces. Thus, similar to the broad scope of Nongqai as such. It wants to preserve the Forces’ proud history and bring it to the public, while also helping to be a link among all those who once served, but also those who are currently serving.
